Hôtel Gounod Nice

The Hotel Gounod occupies a historic 1870s building, in the chic, quiet Musicians' Quarter. The same family has run it for four generations. After two years of works, it reopened in 2024 and received the Nice Gold Hotel Historique label in 2025, which rewards heritage preservation. Its moulded facade, slate dome and pewter spire have been restored to the original.

This 4-star hotel has 35 rooms and suites, decorated in warm ochre and bronze tones, with bespoke olive-wood furniture. Its asset: guests have free access to the facilities of the Splendid Hotel and Spa, the neighbouring hotel run by the same family, a few metres away. Rooftop pool and jacuzzi with a sea view, sauna, fitness, and a spa with treatments at extra cost. The hotel also has private parking, rare in the city centre.

The hotel has no pool, spa or restaurant of its own: these are at the neighbouring Splendid. Buffet breakfast with organic and local products. Station 5 minutes away, sea 5 minutes away.

Highlights: The recent renovation wins everyone over, with rooms judged new, spacious and well decorated. The warm, personalised welcome comes up often, some citing the fruit plate and bottle of rose on arrival in a suite. The central yet quiet location and the careful breakfast are appreciated. Free access to the Splendid rooftop, with sea-view pool and jacuzzi, is a real plus, as is the private parking.

Areas for improvement: The hotel has no facilities of its own: pool, spa and restaurant are at the neighbouring Splendid, and some guests find these dated or occasionally closed. Several feel this falls short of 4-star expectations. Reception service is judged uneven across reviews.

Overall impression: A fine heritage hotel, fresh and central, provided you accept that its leisure facilities are those of the hotel next door.
