Exploring Japan’s Quiet Decline Through Lens
At the Musée de la Photographie Charles Nègre, Youqine Lefèvre’s "Lone Islands" invites viewers to witness Japan’s demographic shift. The exhibition, born from two Tokyo residencies and travels across Kyushu, Kyoto, Gifu, Niigata, Sado, and Yakushima, juxtaposes urban and rural realities. Lefèvre’s images, underpinned by interviews with 90 locals, dissect family structures, gender roles, and the erosion of the nuclear family. The work challenges stereotypes, revealing how tradition clashes with modernity amid economic stagnation.
