A pass for residents of the metropolitan area
The Pass Musées de Nice gives residents of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolitan area aged over 18 unlimited free access to Nice’s municipal museums and galleries. The pass is issued in the holder’s name and is valid for three years. It is therefore a resident benefit, rather than a free ticket available to every visitor to the city: living in the metropolitan area is an eligibility requirement. Under-18s follow a different rule. They do not need the pass and receive free admission when they present proof of age.
Two documents and an on-site application
To apply, bring a valid identity document, either a national identity card or a passport, together with proof of address dated within the last three months. The city states that the pass is issued immediately at the reception desk of a municipal museum or gallery. The Vieux Logis priory is the exception: it does not issue the pass. You can therefore combine the application with a first museum visit, provided that you choose a venue that actually issues the card. The required documents must be presented when you apply.
Choosing a first visit among the municipal venues
The official application page lists several venues associated with the pass, including the Musée Matisse, Villa Masséna and the Musée de la Photographie Charles Nègre. They offer three different starting points for choosing a visit. The Musée Matisse is at 164 avenue des Arènes de Cimiez, Villa Masséna at 65 rue de France and the photography museum at 1 place Pierre Gautier. The pass covers Nice’s municipal museums and galleries. Before planning a particular trip, consult the chosen venue’s own information; the validity of the pass does not tell you its opening hours.
