In the heart of Old Nice, in the basement of Hôtel du Couvent (Luxury Collection Marriott), Les Thermes du Couvent offer Nice's most singular and culturally rooted wellbeing experience. Echoing the Roman bath remains on the Cimiez Hill — the classified site of the ancient Roman city of Cemenelum — the thermes propose a near-circular journey inspired by ancient tradition, flowing through baths of different temperatures in a simultaneously medical, cultural and sensory itinerary.
The journey unfolds in 4 successive stages: the enveloping warmth of the tepidarium (preparatory warm bath), the deep heat of the caldarium (hot bath, perspiration and purification), the vigour of the frigidarium (cold bath, toning and thermal shock), and the unctuarium (oil room where bespoke body treatments are administered). An indoor open-air pool, a rest pool and a 20-metre garden swimming lane complete the thermal journey.
The Movement Studio is a unique component of the wellbeing offering — a room entirely dedicated to the body in motion, founded on the holistic Roman wellbeing vision (mens sana in corpore sano): daily yoga and meditation, intensive functional training, dance and floor barre (Pilates + aerobics + classical), breathwork (toxin elimination through breathing). Individual or group classes on reservation.
Unctuarium treatments are crafted from the Convent herbalist's essential oils — preparations based on the convent garden's plants (jasmine, lavender, rosemary, thyme…). Bespoke massages, personalised facials in partnership with Muse & Héroine (Melinda Bognar). Every protocol is fully personalised to each client's needs and preferences. Non-member access: treatment booking required.
Thermes access for hotel guests included in stay. Non-residents: access requires treatment booking. 60-min treatment from €120. Membership (unlimited thermes + Movement Studio + priority booking): annual quote. Movement Studio classes: from €30.
Monastic, meditative and timeless. Les Thermes du Couvent transport visitors to ancient Rome while immersed in 17th-century Old Nice. Silence, stone, steam and natural light create a unique atmosphere of purification. Guests describe the experience as 'quasi-mystical' and 'transformative'.
Highlights: Thermal journey rated exceptional and 'unique in France'. The tepidarium-caldarium-frigidarium sequence is cited as an intense and beneficial physical and sensory experience. The open-air pool in the convent garden described as 'one of the finest views in Nice'. Herbalist oil treatments greatly appreciated. Monastic atmosphere described as 'extraordinary'.
Areas for improvement: Access restricted to 16 and over. Non-residents must book a treatment to access the thermes. Capacity is limited — long advance booking required in high season.
Les Thermes du Couvent are Nice's most culturally unique wellbeing experience — an immersion in ancient Roman tradition at the heart of a 17th-century baroque convent in the city's most beautiful quarter.
