Tram Line 2 — Airport ↔ City Centre

Only €1.70 26 Min Airport–Centre Every 4-6 Minutes T1 & T2 Served Never Congested
About

Nice Tram Line 2 is the most efficient, fastest and cheapest transfer mode to reach the city centre from Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. Opened in 2018, it connects both airport terminals to Port Lympia (Old Nice side) in just 26 minutes, with 20 intermediate stops — including Place Masséna, Promenade du Paillon, Place Garibaldi and Nice-Riquier Station.

The fare is negligible: €1.70 per single journey (ticket valid for 74 minutes on the entire Lignes d'Azur network, allowing bus/tram transfers). Frequency is excellent: a tram every 4-6 minutes during peak hours, 7 days a week. Unlike taxis or VTCs, the tram is never caught in Promenade des Anglais traffic — its lane is entirely dedicated.

Practical Information

Terminals served: T1 and T2, stations directly in the terminals. Hours: 5am to 1am (approximately). Frequency: every 4-6 min during peak hours, 10-12 min at night. Key stops: Airport Terminal 1 → Airport Terminal 2 → Saint-Augustin → ... → Place Masséna → Jean Médecin → Opéra Vieille Ville → Port Lympia. 2026 Fares: Single ticket €1.70 · 10-journey carnet €13.10 · Day pass €5.50 · Tickets from machines at each stop or on the Lignes d'Azur app.

Advantages & Disadvantages

Advantages: Unbeatable price (€1.70). Guaranteed speed (dedicated lane, never congested). High frequency. Direct service to central districts. No booking needed. Disadvantages: Limited space for large suitcases at peak times. Not practical for families with lots of luggage. Final stop at Port Lympia — connection needed for some central addresses.

Traveller Reviews

Highlights: Tram speed and reliability unanimously praised by international travellers. €1.70 fare considered exceptional for an expensive Côte d'Azur. Frequency (every 4-6 min) eliminates waiting. Carriage comfort rated modern and pleasant.

Areas for improvement: Crowded at summer peak times with luggage. Connection sometimes needed for certain districts can disorient first-time visitors.

The L2 Tram is the logical answer to the first Nice airport transfer — €1.70 to reach the centre in 26 minutes is simply unbeatable on the entire Côte d'Azur.
