Villa Otero

The Villa Otero, a HappyCulture address, is a 4-star boutique hotel on Rue Herold, in the Musicians' Quarter, 300 metres from Nice-Ville station. The building, with its 1900 facade, belongs to the city's most emblematic Belle Epoque district. Its name honours La Belle Otero, a famous cabaret artist of the early 20th century.

The interior, by designer Stephanie Cayet, plunges into the opulence of old Nice villas: mirrors, classical paintings, Art Deco lighting, and wallpapers filled with birds of paradise. The lobby takes on the air of a tea salon and winter garden, with a fireplace. The hotel has 38 rooms. Every day, from 2pm to 6pm, the Grand Gouter offers sweets and small pastries.

Good to know

Ten rooms have a balcony, five a large terrace. Palais des Thes tray and Nespresso machine depending on category, Nuxe products provided. Public parking nearby, with preferential rates.

Highlights: The retro, feminine decor is the first favourite, the wallpapers above all. Visitors appreciate the location, central and near the station, handy for arriving by train and exploring on foot. Staff, warm and smiling, are often cited, sometimes in period costume at reception. The comfortable bedding, the quiet rooms and the small touches, free coffee, tea and afternoon treats, come up in feedback.

Areas for improvement: Breakfast is extra. There is no sea view, the hotel being near the station rather than the seafront. A few guests report noise from slamming doors. The property has neither pool nor spa.

Overall impression: An endearing address full of retro charm, ideal near the station for those who love period decor.
