When the sun sets over the Cours Saleya and the flower market stalls are packed away, another magic begins. From Tuesday to Sunday evening, from mid-May to mid-September, between 6pm and 12:30am, around fifty Nice and regional creators occupy the Cours with their artisan, artistic and fashion stalls — in one of the most beautiful and most memorable atmospheres on the Côte d'Azur.
This market is not a tourist fair — it is an authentically creative gathering, open to all, where every seller is the artist or artisan who created the displayed pieces. No mass production, no imports — only signed local creations, with the maker available to explain the process and the story.
The selection is remarkably diverse: artisan jewellery in silver, bronze, resin and natural stones, created by independent Nice jewellers. Ceramics wheel-thrown and hand-painted with Mediterranean influences. Designer clothing and accessories — linen, organic cotton, natural dyes. Paintings and illustrations by local artists — Nice views, portraits, abstraction. Photographs of the Côte d'Azur in limited edition prints. Decorative objects — artisan candles, natural soaps, painted small furniture. Artisan children's accessories.
Unforgettable. Cours Saleya at night, lit by the warm lights of the stalls and the illuminated baroque facades of Old Nice in the background, creates a scene that even the most jaded travellers find magical. Street music sometimes accompanies the stroll. Free entry and a festive, relaxed atmosphere.
Free entry. Artisan jewellery from €15. Ceramics €20–150. Paintings €50–500. Designer clothing €40–200.
Highlights: The nocturnal market is cited as one of Nice's most memorable experiences in almost all tourist advice lists. The authenticity of the creators — each present and available for their work — is described as incomparable with typical tourist markets. The Cours Saleya atmosphere at night is universally described as magical. Prices, for unique, signed pieces, are considered very reasonable.
Areas for improvement: Seasonality (mid-May to mid-September only) disappoints visitors outside this period. Closed on Mondays. July-August footfall can make navigation between stalls difficult on some evenings.
Overall: The Nocturnal Artisan Market of Cours Saleya is Nice's most authentic and most beautiful artisan-souvenir experience — an address recommended in absolute priority to all visitors present between May and September.
