Monaco & Monte-Carlo — The Principality

Monaco is undoubtedly the most accomplished destination from Nice: just 22 minutes by TER (trains every 15–20 minutes from Nice-Ville), the Principality of Monaco offers exceptional experience density in a 2 km² territory — the world's second smallest state and yet one of its most fascinating.

The visit naturally structures into two parts: The Rock, the medieval upper town where heritage and history concentrate — the Prince's Palace (changing of the guard at 11:55am, State Apartment visits), Saint Nicolas Cathedral (Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier's tombs), the Oceanographic Museum founded by Albert I (one of Europe's finest aquariums, on the cliff overlooking the sea). And Monte-Carlo, the glamorous lower town — the Monte-Carlo Casino (1863 Belle Époque facade, free hall access), the Casino Square with its lined-up Rolls-Royces and Ferraris, Port Hercule and its mega-yachts, Larvotto (sandy beach and free Japanese garden).

The Formula 1 Circuit

Monaco is also the mythical F1 Grand Prix circuit — the city's streets themselves form the track. You drive (or walk) along the Grand Prix layout: tunnel, Rascasse corner, port chicane.

TER train from Nice-Ville — departures every 15–20 minutes, 22 min journey, from €3.90. Free lift from Monaco-Monte-Carlo station: 5 min to the Casino, free public lift to reach the Rock. No car needed. No passport required (Schengen zone).
