30 minutes from Nice by bus 400 (from €1.50), Saint-Paul-de-Vence is the village that perhaps more than any other concentrated the great names of 20th-century art. Matisse, Chagall, Picasso, Léger, Braque, Miró, all stayed or worked here, often drawn by the particular Mediterranean light and the Colombe d'Or inn, whose walls are still covered with paintings and sculptures offered by these artists as payment.
