Inaugurated in 1913 by Henri Negresco, this unique palace on the Promenade des Anglais is far more than a hotel: it is a listed historic monument, a living museum and the timeless symbol of French art de vivre on the Côte d'Azur. Its 102 rooms and 28 suites, all uniquely decorated with authentic period furniture and original artworks, transport guests through five centuries of art history — from the 17th century to contemporary creations. Le Chantecler (1 Michelin star) — Under the direction of chef Virginie Basselot, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, this starred restaurant embodies contemporary Niçois haute cuisine in a sumptuous setting with 1751 oak woodwork. Menus from €190 to €230, wine pairing from €95. Open Tue–Sat evenings.
La Rotonde — The palace's contemporary brasserie, decorated with carved wooden carousel horses, hosts the breakfast buffet (€42 / person) and lunch. Baroque and festive setting, accessible and generous cuisine. A less formal but equally memorable gastronomic experience.
Le 1913 — The legendary bar with period walnut panelling, suffused with jazz, pop and soul in the evenings. Signature cocktails, vintage champagnes and exceptional spirits. The ideal spot for aperitifs while watching the celebrity ballet.
Le Versailles — The outdoor bar with luminous terrace, perfect for a drink facing the Mediterranean.
N Le Spa offers exclusive Signature treatments and a private spa 'L'Écrin' for the most intimate stays. N La Plage (May–September): the palace's private beach with an MOF botanical garden by Hervé Frézal and a gastronomic seafront restaurant. The Concept Store and Le Boudoir for luxury shopping. Majestic, eclectic and deeply cultural. Unlike some palaces frozen in their own grandeur, the Negresco lives and breathes contemporary art while preserving Belle Époque elegance. It welcomes international travellers alongside Niçois residents dropping in for lunch at the finest brasserie in the city. The livery-clad service oscillates between five-star palace rigour and genuinely Mediterranean warmth.
Highlights: The building is universally described as 'a jewel' and 'a gem of the Côte d'Azur'. Service is rated as exceptional and benevolent — from arrival to departure, every staff member is named individually for their attention. The sea view room is described as 'breathtaking'. In-room breakfast, the unique décor of each room and the artwork-lined corridors are unanimous highlights. La Rotonde brasserie is consistently cited as 'an enchanted parenthesis beneath a starlit ceiling'.
Areas for improvement: Some guests feel certain rooms merit renovation — some insufficient electrical outlets and worn wallpaper in certain categories. The heavily historical and ornate style may unsettle guests attached to contemporary minimalism. Parking (€60/day) is considered expensive. The Chantecler dress code is occasionally mentioned. One isolated review comparing the standard to a 4-star chain hotel prompted an official response reminding that it is France's only independent palace hotel.
