Nestled between the Promenade des Anglais and Place Masséna, at the heart of Nice's Carré d'Or, Maison Albar — Le Victoria is the most significant hotel opening on the Côte d'Azur in 2024. Conceived as an 'immobile cruise' — a metaphor for luxurious travel without ever leaving the ground — this five-star establishment of 102 rooms and 30 suites masterfully reinterprets the glamour of the 1930s and Belle Époque art de vivre. White, ivory and greige, edged with black and punctuated by azure, create a visual palette of rare elegance. Architects GOMIS and Studio MHNA preserved original marquetry, lacquerwork and marble while asserting a resolutely contemporary aesthetic.
From the upper-floor rooms and suites, the views over the Baie des Anges are breathtaking. Some suites feature private terraces where sky and sea merge in perfect chromatic harmony. The 5,500 m² luxury retail gallery at the hotel's base completes a full destination offering.
On the 6th floor, restaurant Taulissa ('on the rooftops' in Provençal) is one of Nice's most exciting gastronomic addresses. Under the creative direction of chef Glenn Viel (triple-starred at l'Oustau de Baumanière) and executive chef Fred Grava, the cuisine celebrates Mediterranean terroir with generous, creative sharing dishes. Daily catch, slow-cooked lamb shoulder carved tableside, revisited socca as an amuse-bouche — everything is designed for conviviality and spectacle. The panoramic 360° terrace encompasses Nice, the sea and the Mercantour peaks. Taulissa is listed in the 2025 Michelin Guide. Average spend: €80 to €120.
Café Victoria (2nd floor) offers a bistronomic menu by Glenn Viel, open all day: panoramic breakfast buffet (€42), lunch and afternoon tea. The Sunday brunch — with casserole buffet, perfect egg and live music facing the Mediterranean — is already a must for Niçois.
Adjacent to the rooftop restaurant, Taulissa's bar reinvents classic cocktails with Glenn Viel's creative touch — beneath white canopies stretched like a yacht's deck. Selection of Provence wines, champagnes and exceptional spirits.
Oria Spa spans 650 m² around a marble pool. Six treatment rooms including two suites with private hot tubs. Gold treatments by Beauty Gold de Giusto Manetti Battiloro, La Colline protocols, organic Seed to Skin Tuscany rituals. Private coaching and fitness studio classes on request. The outdoor infinity pool on the 6th floor merges seamlessly with the Mediterranean.
Elegant, luminous and modern without being cold. The hotel achieves the difficult feat of being both a grand luxury palace and a genuinely pleasant living space. Guests feel 'in a cocoon' according to reviews. The team — concierge, receptionists, room service, spa staff — is unanimously cited for responsiveness and warm approachability. Breakfast on the 6th floor is described as 'fabulous' by regulars.
Highlights: The hotel is rated exceptional at every visit — 'staff who take care of every detail', 'quality of equipment', 'beautiful pool and spa'. Restaurant Taulissa and its wine and champagne guidance are particularly appreciated. Views from superior rooms and terrace breakfast are described as 'magical and unforgettable'. Oria Spa receives unanimous praise for its quality and serenity. Highly appreciated for romantic getaways and special personal events.
Areas for improvement: Some standard rooms are considered slightly small for this level of offering. Festive events (hen parties, stag parties) are prohibited — surprising to some but ensuring other guests' tranquillity. The ground-floor retail gallery is still being progressively opened (phased openings in 2025).
