The Promenade des Anglais stretches over 7 kilometres facing the Mediterranean and hosts dozens of private beaches — these seafront establishments offering sun loungers, parasols, bars and restaurants directly on the Nice pebbles. While public beaches are free and perfectly pleasant, the private beach experience in Nice is different: service, comfort, cocktails within reach and a resort atmosphere found nowhere else in France.
Understanding the Prices
The standard private Nice beach formula generally includes a sun lounger at €20–30 per day (sometimes half-day), a parasol at €10–15 extra, and access to beach services (showers, changing rooms). Restaurants and bars are additional. Some beaches offer all-inclusive day packages (lounger + parasol + drink) from €40–50 per person.
Beaches to Know
Plage Beau Rivage — Opposite the Opéra
Belonging to the Beau Rivage hotel, this is one of the Promenade's best-located beaches — facing Old Nice, steps from Cours Saleya. Refined service, renowned restaurant, international clientele.
Castel Plage — At Castle Hill's Foot
The best-positioned beach on the east side — at Castle Hill's foot, with a direct view over Port Lympia and the hills. One of the Promenade's most crystalline waters.
Hi Beach — Design and Organic
Nice's most design beach — Philippe Starck sun loungers and parasols, organic and vegetarian menu, trendy atmosphere. Ideal for aesthetics and healthy cuisine lovers facing the sea.
When to Go
Private beaches generally open from April to October. High season (July–August) is the most animated but most crowded — arrive at 9:30am for your preferred spot. In May, June and September, the quality-of-life ratio is ideal: fine weather, still warm sea, and half the summer crowds.
