Fragonard has set up its shop on Cours Saleya, in the heart of Old Nice, under handsome stone vaults in Provençal colours. The house comes from Grasse, where it was founded in 1926. The name honours the Grasse-born painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard. The company has stayed in the family: it is now run by the three daughters of Jean-François Costa.
The Nice address is first and foremost a shop. You will find the house perfumes, eaux de toilette, soaps and cosmetics, as well as textile collections, homeware and plenty of gift ideas. The house also has two counters at Nice airport.
The guided factory tours and the real creation workshops take place in Grasse and Èze, not in the Nice shop. Here you come to browse, smell and bring back a scented souvenir of the Riviera. Open daily from 10am to 7pm, which is rare in this area.
Highlights: The setting wins everyone over. The vaulted shop, its sunny façade and its spot on the Cours Saleya market make it a pleasant stop on a walk through Old Nice. Visitors appreciate the breadth of the range, from affordable soaps to gift sets, and its souvenir appeal. Opening seven days a week is a real plus for travellers passing through.
Areas for improvement: This is a shop, not a production site. Those after a factory tour or a workshop need to head up to Grasse. The place can get busy at market times. A few visitors find the experience more commercial than intimate.
Overall impression: An easy, pretty stop to take home a Grasse perfume without leaving central Nice. For the full house experience, the trip to Grasse is worth it.
