Jumalee is a perfume-creation studio on Rue Cassini, a short walk from Place Garibaldi and the port. The place is run by Julien Bigaré, a Grasse native and former creation-workshop manager at Molinard. Grasse's expertise is on UNESCO's intangible heritage list, and it is that legacy you come to experience here.
The principle is simple: at a rotating perfume organ, guided by an expert, you blend your own extract from Grasse essences. Top, heart and base notes, the pyramid is built step by step. The formula is numbered and archived so you can reorder it.
The perfume workshop comes in 50 ml or 100 ml. The Barfumeur is a playful 30-minute introduction: fifteen fragrances already designed to blend together, dosed yourself at the spout. Expect a range of €60 to €120 depending on the format. Your creation can be turned into a body milk or a massage oil. The venue also has a relaxation area.
Highlights: Julien's welcome is the most cited point, often over a coffee and a chocolate. Visitors describe a rich, hands-on experience where you genuinely learn how a perfume is built. The Barfumeur concept is seen as original and fun. Several note that the resulting scent lasts well on the skin, and that value for money is reasonable given the bottle and the guidance. It comes up often as a gift idea, for a birthday or a wedding.
Areas for improvement: The workshop is by appointment only, so you need to book your slot ahead. The shop is intimate, which limits group size. The side services, massage and relaxation area, are not what everyone comes for.
Overall impression: A lovely scented interlude in the middle of Nice, carried by a passionate host. To leave with a perfume that is yours alone.
