Rivae is a Nice perfumer that translates the Riviera into fragrances. The brand grew out of the 2017 takeover of the Menton house behind Eau de Menton, created in 1947. Julien Foucher is its founder. Rivae therefore draws on long-standing local know-how while offering a contemporary world.
The perfumes play on freshness: a citrus dominant, verbena, rose, mimosa, olive wood. The blends are developed in Grasse and bottled in Menton, with over 90% naturally sourced ingredients. Each eau de toilette carries an evocative name, Morning Promenade, Summer Farniente, Aromatic Vallon, and a note telling its inspiration. The range extends to candles, soaps and home fragrances.
The shop has moved into Old Nice, at 15 Rue du Collet. Expect around €39 for 100 ml, the brand claiming accessible quality. Open Tuesday to Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.
Highlights: Visitors love the brand's Riviera spirit and its fresh, sunny fragrances. The evocative names and the story behind each perfume appeal, with many leaving with Morning Promenade or an Aromatic Vallon diffuser. The local, natural angle is a strong draw, as are prices seen as very reasonable. The welcome and in-store advice are regularly praised, with a salesperson who takes time to explain the world of the brand.
Areas for improvement: The range is limited to the house brand, with no wide choice of other labels. The shop has recently changed address: it is best to check the hours before stopping by. Closed Sunday and Monday.
Overall impression: An endearing brand for taking home a little of the Riviera in a bottle, at gentle prices and with local production.
