At the top of AC Hotel by Marriott Nice, at 59 Promenade des Anglais, Farago on the Roof has established itself since its 2018 opening as the Côte d'Azur's reference rooftop. Ranked #1 by The Rooftop Guide and unanimously praised by international specialist guides, it occupies a 1,000 m² terrace on the 7th floor — one of the largest on the Niçois coastline — with 360° views over the sea, Alps and Nice hinterland.
Founded by Niçois Jean Valfort and Basque Pierre Dutaret (the same concept as the famous Farago on Rue des Petites Écuries in Paris), the rooftop was fully reinvented in 2024 with an elegant pergola, open kitchen, convivial bar and lagoon-coloured infinity pool (hotel guests only). The lush vegetation — palm trees, bougainvillea, Mediterranean plants — creates a unique hanging garden, bathed in a particularly enchanting golden light at sunset.
The menu is signed by chef Vincenzo Tuccillo — generous, creative Mediterranean cuisine designed for sharing: grilled octopus, signature lobster roll, burrata with heart of beef tomatoes, Basque pintxos, garlic and chilli prawns, Bellota Pata Negra 100% acorn charcuterie imported directly from the Basque Country. Evening menus €29 to €47. At the bar, signature cocktails are crafted from AOC and organic products — the house Sparkling Sangria has become the address's emblem. Tapas €5 to €20, cocktails €10 to €14.
Acoustic concerts and DJ sets every evening in high season — regional artists solo or in duo. Very popular Sunday brunch. Rooftop breakfast buffet with Mediterranean views is an institution. Open May to October as a restaurant (12pm–10pm) with a winter Tradiswiss pop-up (Swiss fondue on the terrace, December–March).
Bohemian, chic and sun-drenched. Farago achieves the difficult balance between festive and refined — equally suited to family lunch, birthday celebration or romantic evening. An international, young, curious clientele mingles with loyal Niçois regulars from day one.
Highlights: Panoramic view unanimously rated exceptional — 'the finest on the Promenade'. Grilled octopus and lobster roll consistently cited as the best dishes. Cocktails described as 'creative and perfectly balanced'. The lush rooftop vegetation creates a unique atmosphere clients describe as 'suspended between sky and sea'. Live music evenings greatly appreciated.
Areas for improvement: Access is poorly indicated — no direct entry from the Promenade, must go through the hotel lobby then take the lift to the 7th floor with a final flight of stairs. An incident with a manager was reported by a regular client (parking issue). High tables/bench seating considered uncomfortable by some guests.
Farago on the Roof is the address that encapsulates what Nice does best: a Mediterranean sunset, a Sparkling Sangria in hand, feet in Mediterranean vegetation, on 1,000 m² above the world's most beautiful promenade.
