They call it the 100 antique dealers' promenade, and the nickname is earned. Around rue Catherine Ségurane, between Port Lympia and Place Garibaldi, an entire quarter has organised itself over decades around the trade in antiques, bric-a-brac, vintage and art. With around a hundred independent dealers concentrated in a small perimeter, it is one of the densest antiques quarters on the entire Côte d'Azur.
The dealer profile is remarkably diverse: antiquarian booksellers for rare book enthusiasts, antique dealers specialising in 19th and early 20th century furniture, gallerists offering master paintings and regional engravings, vintage dealers with retro fashion and accessories, general bric-a-brac dealers with finds at all prices. The quarter is completed by Julien Dugourd's patisserie and a few contemporary galleries that have taken up residence here.
Every Monday morning, Place Garibaldi transforms into an open-air flea market and antiques fair — an unmissable event for Nice and Côte d'Azur browsers. Dozens of vendors offer furniture, crockery, antique jewellery, books, paintings, vintage clothing and various curiosities. Free entry and a festive atmosphere.
Authentic, relaxed and slightly outside of time. Rue Catherine Ségurane is one of Nice's most beautiful streets architecturally — baroque facades, ochre colours, patinated shop signs — and one of the most pleasant to wander without a specific destination.
Antiquarian books from €2–5. Bric-a-brac from €5. Antiques €50–5,000. Paintings €100–10,000. Vintage fashion €15–100.
Highlights: Antiques and vintage enthusiasts from around the world cite rue Ségurane as one of their favourite Côte d'Azur addresses — the density of dealers and quality of available pieces are judged exceptional for a city of this size. The Monday Garibaldi market is regularly described as an absolute must. The quarter's architectural setting adds a cultural dimension to the stroll.
Areas for improvement: Boutiques have variable hours and some are closed on weekdays. Weather can make the stroll less enjoyable outside fine days. Prices for quality antiques are high — negotiation possible but not systematic.
Overall: Rue Ségurane is the address for lovers of beautiful things and history — a quarter unique to Nice that classic guides don't always cover sufficiently and that deserves a full half-day of wandering.
