One of Nice's least known assets is its exceptional proximity to Alpine gorges — just 40 minutes from the Promenade des Anglais lie rivers and torrents of spectacular beauty, perfect for river water sports. Azur Rafting, at 54 avenue du Ray in Nice, is the reference operator bridging the Côte d'Azur and these natural hinterland treasures.
The agency organises outings in several Alpes-Maritimes Alpine gorges: the Var canyon with its spectacular waterfalls, the Vésubie gorges (turquoise waters and polished rocks), the Gorges du Loup (rappels and natural slides), the Gorges du Verdon for the most adventurous. Activities: rafting, canyoning, river kayak and hydrospeed.
Activities are adapted to different levels — family outings from age 8 on easy routes, to technical descents for experienced sportspeople. State-certified guide supervision guarantees safety.
Half-day rafting from €40. Canyon initiation from €50. Nice transport included on some packages.
Highlights: Azur Rafting is cited as one of the finest discoveries for visitors unfamiliar with Nice's nearby Alpine gorges. Vésubie and Loup canyons are described as spectacular. Guides are unanimously appreciated for professionalism and good cheer. The experience is very different from beach water sports.
Areas for improvement: Activities require a minimum fitness level. Canyon outings can be cancelled in heavy upstream rain. Requires transport to sites.
Overall: Azur Rafting is Nice's most original and most differentiating nautical experience — ideal for visitors wanting to combine sea and mountain within 40 minutes of the Promenade.
