Located at 41 Quai des États-Unis, facing the Baie des Anges, La Movida is approaching its fifteenth anniversary in the best shape of its life. Taken over in 2016 by Alexandre Gagnepain, who inherited the family bar from his parents, the address has evolved without losing the soul that defines it: a panoramic sea terrace, a sunny atmosphere and an assumed philosophy — 'Here, it's not about getting drunk, but about living an experience', as co-manager Christophe Assaf likes to say.
The décor has been entirely rethought in recent years to bring a modern touch without betraying the spirit of the place. The balcony facing the Mediterranean remains the venue's jewel — an ideal box seat to watch the most photographed sunsets on the Promenade, cocktail in hand.
La Movida's philosophy rests on personalisation. Each guest can choose their base (bitter, sweet, sour, floral) and the bartender crafts a unique cocktail around that preference. The signature menu includes a dozen house creations, renewed twice a year. Prices: €16 per cocktail, beer at €9, tapas at €10.
The menu offers careful homemade tapas — tuna tartare, house burger, chicken strips, sharing boards — served until 1:30am. Honest, well-executed bar food that allows you to extend the evening without leaving the address.
Convivial, sunny and relaxed. La Movida is one of the rare Nice addresses where loyal locals and first-time tourists coexist in the same complicity. The view over the Baie des Anges and the sunset create a natural magic that nothing can replace. Open daily from 9am to 2am.
Cocktails €14–16. Pints at €9. Tapas €10–18.
Highlights: The panoramic view over the Baie des Anges from the balcony is unanimously described as one of Nice's most beautiful. The concept of personalised cocktails based on client preferences is very well received. The inclusive atmosphere mixing locals and tourists is often cited as the venue's great strength.
Areas for improvement: The terrace is very popular in high season and queues can be long on weekend evenings. Service can be slower during summer peak periods.
Overall: La Movida is a sunny institution on the Quai des États-Unis, whose view and cocktail philosophy make it one of Nice's finest aperitivo addresses across all categories.
