10BestNice 19/06/2026 Guide

We imagine Nice as a chic, adult destination. Yet the city proves ideal for a family holiday. Mild climate all year round, accessible beaches, green spaces, fun activities and varied excursions. Here's how to keep children entertained without exhausting yourself.

Phoenix Park, the Safe Bet

West of the city, Phoenix Park is a vast seven-hectare botanical garden that delights young and old. There you'll find a giant tropical greenhouse, a lake with swans and turtles, free-roaming animals, play areas and hundreds of plant species. Allow half a day to explore it at a relaxed pace. Entry is very affordable and the park is accessible by tram.

Beaches Designed for Children

All of Nice's beaches are pebble, which can complicate swimming for the youngest. Think water shoes. Some private beaches offer family areas with loungers, and the shallow water of the bay stays calm and safe. For sand, a short trip to Villefranche-sur-Mer or the Var beaches offers more comfort for toddlers.

The Tourist Train and Fun Discovery

The Nice tourist train departs from the seafront and climbs up to Castle Hill, crossing Old Nice. It's a gentle, fun way to discover the city without tiring children's legs. The climb to the Castle waterfall and the playground at the summit complete the outing perfectly.

Museums Children Enjoy

Several Niçois museums know how to captivate the youngest. The Natural History Museum offers fascinating collections. The Museum of Illusions plays with perception in interactive rooms where you take amusing photos. And the workshops at the Matisse Museum or Chagall Museum introduce children to art in a fun way during school holidays.

Family Excursions

For a day of adventure, Parc Alpha in the Mercantour lets you observe wolves in a mountain setting, about an hour's drive away. Closer, the seaside path between Nice and Villefranche is easily walked with children and offers coves for swimming. And a boat trip along the coast always delights families.

Practical Tips

The tram is free for young children and very practical with a pushchair. Favour early morning or late afternoon outings in summer to avoid the heat. And enjoy the many green spaces of the Promenade du Paillon, the green corridor crossing the centre, perfect for a break with water games and play areas.
