Calade Rooftop Restaurant

The Calade Rooftop crowns the Radisson Blu, at the western end of the Promenade des Anglais. It is the largest rooftop in Nice. You come first for the view: a panorama embracing the city and the Baie des Anges, between sea and sky. The cuisine is Mediterranean, in a chic, relaxed atmosphere.

The place works in two modes. At lunch and dinner, it is a terrace restaurant. Through the day and evening, the Pool Bar takes over, with a pool, jacuzzi, cocktails and tapas. The format draws hotel guests and locals after a rooftop afterwork alike.

Open all year, every day, lunch and dinner. Brunch on Sunday. The pool and pool bar mainly run in the warmer months. Booking advised for the terrace in fine weather.

Areas for improvement: Service is often overwhelmed at peak times, with waits that can exceed an hour between courses and organisation judged lacking. Dishes and cocktails running out early in the evening come up often, as does uneven, sometimes disappointing cooking, at times found bland. Prices are high relative to the quality, the room can be noisy, and Sunday is brunch only.

Overall impression: An address to choose above all for the view, the pool and a drink at sunset. For a meal, better to aim for a quiet service and keep in mind high prices and a service that is sometimes overstretched.
