At the top of Le Méridien Nice, at 1 Promenade des Anglais, Elaïo is the brand new rooftop restaurant that signs the vibrant renewal of hotel dining on the Côte d'Azur. Its concept is as original as its name — in Greek, elaïo means olive — and its culinary philosophy pays homage to olive oil, the emblematic product of the Mediterranean basin, through an inventive seasonal menu.
Perched directly on the Promenade des Anglais, with breathtaking views over the Mediterranean and the rooftops of Nice's historic centre, Elaïo offers one of the city's most spectacular panoramas. The terrace, accessible from aperitif onwards, lends itself equally to sunny lunches and chic afterwork evenings where sunsets are consumed with cocktails.
The Elaïo menu is a celebration of bold, inventive Southern flavours. Each dish integrates olive oil as a connecting thread, in sometimes surprising combinations: yoghurt ice cream with olive oil and candied lemon (the signature dessert), seasonal sunny tapas, local seasonal produce cooked with a touch of Mediterranean whimsy. Short, regularly renewed menu favouring sharing. Signature cocktails incorporating olive oil as aromatic touches. Average spend: €40 — €65.
Modern, elegant and vibrant. Elaïo is both a restaurant and a sunset bar — the ambiance evolves from lunch serenity to the festive afterwork effervescence. Music, curated by a dedicated team, rises progressively through the day.
Highlights: The direct panoramic Promenade des Anglais view is unanimously rated exceptional. The olive as connecting concept is original and well-executed. The olive oil yoghurt ice cream cited as 'a revelation'. Afterwork atmosphere greatly appreciated by active Niçois. Service welcoming and professional.
Areas for improvement: Being new, Elaïo is still refining its concept — some dishes are being adjusted. Pricing is in the upper range of Nice rooftops.
Elaïo is the Mediterranean rooftop Nice was missing — inventive, elegant and philosophically rooted in Provençal terroir. One to watch closely.
